ONE Contract with the Primary Care Network’s Mental Health Support Team (1337 St. Andrew’s Ave., North Vancouver)

~ 5 hours per month, 6 month pilot – contract. Starting Fall 2024

Contract Description

Under the supervision of the Mental Health Clinician you will work with adults (19+) seeking to learn about gender affirming care. The successful candidate will be required to attend the Hope Centre’s Peer Support training in the Fall of 2024. They will be a well-organized individual who exhibits initiative, flexibility, sound judgment, strong boundaries, good interpersonal skills, and have experience accessing gender affirming care.

Duties include:

Co-facilitating the group with a mental health clinician, assisting with group preparation and clean up, participating in activities showing encouragement and patience; sharing about personal experiences as appropriate, participating in group debrief sessions, and maintaining the monthly attendance for the group.  

Qualifications: The successful individual will:

1. Have completed a Peer Support Training program, or be willing to complete the Peer Support Training in the Fall of 2024, or have equivalent training or experience
2. Have personal experience receiving services within the mental health system
3. Have personal experience accessing gender affirming care
4. Be able to be a role model by sharing common life experiences, and practical information
5. Be empathic, patient and supportive
6. Have effective strategies for dealing with stress
7. Be able to work cooperatively with other mental health staff, peers and family members
8. Be able to work with a culturally diverse population
9. Be able to present in a professional manner
10. Be organized and able to maintain records

Duration of Placement: 6 months, renewable

Pay and Hours: $25.00 per hour, ~5 hours per month
