Contract Description:

Under the supervision of the GVS program coordinator, and working closely with the Occupational Therapists and job developers, you will assist individuals living with mental illness to achieve vocational, employment and educational goals. The successful candidate will be a well-organized individual who exhibits initiative, flexibility, sound judgment and good interpersonal skills.

Services performed include:

 Assisting clients in achieving vocational/employment/educational goal(s) (ie. supporting work readiness in group; providing basic support with computer-assisted job search, labour market research and/or online skills training; transit/outreach support for client on volunteer/work placements); communicating all relevant information in accordance with VCH electronic documentation standards, and being involved in other events ie. group volunteering, as needed.

Qualifications:  The successful individual will:

  1. have completed a recognized Peer Support Worker Training program with a practicum (preferred) or have equivalent training and/or experience (may be considered)
  2. have personal lived/living experience receiving mental health services and with recovery
  3. openness to sharing life experiences and practical information relevant to employment and recovery
  4. be flexible with scheduling (opportunity to work less or more than 20-40 hours depending on group schedule which varies month to month)
  5. be available to support group 2-3 afternoons/week TUES/WED/THURS
  6. be available to meet clients at the office and in the community, willingness to take public transit to accompany clients to volunteer/work placements as needed
  7. proficient with basic applications of computer/smartphone
  8. be able to work cooperatively and communicate in a respectful and timely manner with staff/clients
  9. have a professional manner and respect boundaries of the role
  10. have effective strategies for managing wellness and job demands
  11. willingness to participate in additional training/development ie. Indigenous Cultural Safety, 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusivity

Duration of these Placements:  12 month contract, with potential to renew.

Pay and Hours:  $20 an hour, up to a maximum 40 hours a month.
