Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the support provided to a person who may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health or substance use crisis.
The 2-day Mental Health First Aid course focuses on the four most common mental health disorders including substance related, mood related, anxiety and trauma related, and psychotic disorders. Participants who take this course will be well prepared to interact confidently about mental health with their family, friends, communities, and workplaces. This course is certified by the Mental Health Commission of Canada and taught by Mental Health First Aid Master Facilitator, Carla Abichahine.
Learn how to:
- Recognize signs that a person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health or substance use crisis
- Have conversations that encourage a person to talk about their mental well-being, discuss professional and other supports that could help with recovery to improved mental wellbeing, and reach out to these supports
- Assist in a mental health or substance-use crisis situation
- Check in with one’s own mental well-being and take action as needed

To receive a certificate you must attend the two full days. This is a policy set by the copyright owners and we (and your instructor) are not able to provide leeway. We suggest planning to arrive by 8:45AM, the course starts promptly at 9:00AM. Late attendees will not receive an official certificate but you will have access to all of the other course materials. If this will be a barrier for you, please consider waiting for another session.
