Dive into the exciting world of comic graphic novels with this beginner-friendly workshop. Over 8 weeks, you’ll explore every stage of comic creation—from brainstorming ideas to finalizing your art with inking and coloring.
Tailored for individuals with mental health and/or substance use challenges, this hands-on program is designed to build confidence, encourage creativity, and equip you with the skills to bring your stories to life.
Throughout the workshop we hope participants will:
- Gain confidence in artistic and storytelling skills
- Get hands-on experience with each step of comic creation
- Complete pages of their unique comic/graphic novel project
The Comic Connection is a community project led by Ben, a visual artist. Ben finds graphic novels and comics a complete thrill and has always wanted to share this passion with others. The project is assisted by Ana, a peer writer. Participants will learn illustration techniques from Ben and learn storytelling fundamentals from Ana.
The Comic Connection 8-Week Workshop is being offered 3 times, starting:

- Open to those in Vancouver with lived/living experience of mental health and/or substance use challenges
