PEER SUPPORT WORKER:
NOTICE OF CONTRACT

20 HOURS/MONTH AVAILABE AT SOUTH MENTAL HEALTH & SUBSTANCE USE TEAM
220-1200 WEST 73^RD AVE VANCOUVER BC

We are looking to:

1. Hire one person to work up to 20 hours/month or
2. Split these hours into 2 contracts up to 10 hours per month

Job Description: Under the supervision of the Team Director and rehab staff, you will work with clients with mental illness & substance use challenges with the objective of assisting them to achieve their stated goals.  The successful candidate will be a well-organized individual who demonstrates initiative, flexibility, sound judgement and good interpersonal skills. 

Duties include: one-to-one work, in-person, on the telephone or by zoom. Goals include assisting clients with acquiring a new skill, linking with community resources etc; communicating all relevant information verbally and in writing to pertinent staff; and attending monthly peer support worker meetings, by zoom currently. **If interested, there are also opportunities to co-facilitate a group with Rehab staff; group experience an asset.

Qualifications:  The successful individual will:

1. have completed a Peer Support Training program or have equivalent training or experience
2. have personal experience receiving services within the mental health system (required)
3. be a role model to people recovering from a serious mental illness by sharing common life experiences and practical information
4. have effective strategies for dealing with stress
5. be able to work cooperatively with mental health staff, consumers and family members
6. be able to work with a culturally diverse population
7. be willing to respect other people’s right to decline assistance
8. be able to adequately access public transportation, able to use a computer and communicate timely with staff
9. be able to present in a professional manner, and
10. be empathetic, patient and supportive.

Duration of these Placements:  6 Months, with potential to renew. You CANNOT work at the team or unit where you receive service.

Pay and Hours:  $24 an hour, up to 20 hours maximum a month (including meetings); may be split into 2- 10 hour contracts
