VOICES & VISIONS SUPPORT GROUP FACILITATORS

Duration of Placement: 6 month contract with potential to renew
Pay and Hours: $21.00 per hour starting, up to 12 hours per month
Location of Work: In-person at various sites in the Vancouver community and Virtual (delivered via Zoom) from home
Job Description:
The Vancouver Voices & Visions groups are peer-led support groups based on the International Hearing Voices Network. The aim is to be a place where people who hear voices, see visions, or have other unusual/unique sensory experiences can give and receive support, share techniques for living well with their experiences and/or explore the meaning those experiences have for them. The groups are facilitated by peers who support the smooth functioning of the group and make relevant resources available to participants. All Voices & Visions groups are co-facilitated by two Peer Facilitators.
Duties include:
- Set-up and take-down of room (may involve moving tables and chairs)
- Co-facilitate support group meetings – ensuring meetings run smoothly
- Be open to a range of ways of understanding experiences
- Ensure everyone has a chance to speak
- Draw on Hearing Voices Network resource materials in discussions and make these and other resources available to participants
- Share personal experience for the benefit of the group or individuals
- Attend quarterly team meetings, communicate with site staff, promote the Support Groups, and complete paperwork as required
Qualifications:
- Personal lived/living experience of hearing voices, seeing visions, or having other unusual/unique sensory experiences
- Completion of a group facilitation training or willingness to complete one
- Prior experience with group facilitation is considered an asset
- Completion of a Peer Support Training Program or equivalent is considered an asset
- Excellent listening and communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work cooperatively
- Ability to attend sessions consistently and be highly reliable to commitments
- Ability to effectively use a computer, phone, email, and Zoom
- Ability to present in a professional manner
- Successful completion of a criminal record check (organized by us)
Time Commitment:
We have a number of groups running at different sites in Vancouver and virtually on different days. We are looking for a peer facilitator to co-facilitate the following groups:
- Every Monday and/or Thursday at Joseph & Rosalie Segal & Family Health Centre (803 W 12th Ave, Vancouver, BC, V5Z 1N1) – 3 hours each day
- 3rd Friday of each month at Three Bridges Community Health Centre (1128 Hornby St, Vancouver, BC, V6Z 2L4) – 2 hours
You would be part of a rotating team of facilitators, with opportunities to work additional dates and times.
