Professional Artistic Growth Made Accessible

A project proposed, developed and run by a peer community member,
funded by the Consumer Initiative Fund

CIF Project Summary

Professional Artistic Growth Made Accessible

Provides free professional development opportunities for Vancouver visual artists and writers. It is an innovative community project that steps beyond limiting societal perceptions of artists with lived experience of mental health and/or substance use issues.

Through workshops and 1-on-1 consultations, participants will receive guidance and support from:

  1. The director and curator of an art gallery
  2. An experienced author, writing teacher, and manuscript consultant
  3. A practicing self-taught artist and writer with lived experience of mental health issues and a significant exhibition and publication history

Professional Artistic Growth Made Accessible is led by Seema, who has first-hand experience of how challenging it can be to develop a creative path and pursue a career in art. Her own path benefitted greatly with the support of professionals in her field, and she hopes to create opportunities for other artists and writers to benefit as well.
