PEER SUPPORT WORKER:
NOTICE OF CONTRACT

Job Description:
Venture is a 21 bed transitional community program with a length of stay that varies from two weeks upwards. Under supervision of the program supervisor and recreation therapist, and in conjunction with treatment personnel, you will work with clients with mental health, and/ or substance use concerns with the objective of assisting them in achieving their stated goals. Duties include group and one-to-one work assisting client(s) in achieving goals, acquiring new skills (ie. transit skills), accessing community resources, and documenting interactions. Successful candidate will facilitate program activities of interest (ie. walking groups, bingo, card games, arts & crafts) and co-facilitate mental health management and wellness groups (ie. stress management, recovery journey, self-care, managing symptoms, talk groups).
Qualifications:
- Peer Support Training, plus 1-2 years’ experience working with population
- Personal lived experience (required)
- Effective strategies for dealing with stress
- Be able to work under supervision, as well as be self-directed
- Be able to work with a culturally diverse population
- Be able to adequately access public transportation
- Be able to present in a professional manner
- Be empathetic, patient and supportive
- Willing to facilitate or co-facilitate groups as needed
- Have the ability to participate in light physical activities with clients (such as walking)
Duration of these Placements: 6 month contact, with potential to renew.
Pay and Hours: $20/hour and up to 20 hours/month. Days can be flexible to suit the needs of the successful applicant and Venture program.
Start Date: As soon as possible
